Le French Quantum: list of CEA laboratories

CEA- IRIG

CBM - Chemistry and Biology of Metals - The scientific project of the Chemistry and Biology of Metals laboratory conducts research at the interface of chemistry and biology. This work focuses on the study of the structure, activity and regulation of complex biological systems that transport and use metal ions, and on the exploitation of this knowledge to develop bio-inspired systems with similar structures and/or functions.

DSBT - Low Temperature Systems Department - The field of competences of DSBT relates to the cryotechnology in a broad range of temperatures since a few hundred millikelvins until approximately 100 K Our programs relate mainly to the placement of superfluid helium applied to installations of big size, cryogenics associated with thermonuclear fusion and the cryorefrigerators in particular for the space applications.

MEM - Modeling and Exploration of Materials laboratory - The MEM laboratory offers a unique and coherent set of techniques for material exploration, for comprehensive and concrete answers to materials or processes problems. Our teams are
• LEMMA team: Advanced Microscopies laboratory and ion beams. Ultimate TEM, strain measurements, holography, chemical analysis
• NRX team: Nanostructures and X-Rays. Studies of nanostructures using laboratory and synchrotron X-rays.
• NMR team: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance lab, development of Dynamic Nuclear Polarization/Magic Angle Spinning techniques for solid state NMR.
• MDN team: neutron diffraction laboratory. Triple axis inelastic scattering, magnetic scattering. Running of CRG instruments at ILL.
• L_SIM team: numerical simulation laboratory, using ab initio codes based on DFT, Tight binding etc…

PHELIQS - Quantum Photonics, Electronics and Engineering Laboratory - PHELIQS is a basic research laboratory whose activities enter mainly into the fields of nanophysics and condensed matter physics, with potential mid or long term application prospects to information and communication technologies. PHELIQS researchers aim at understanding and mastering the original physical effects (in most case of quantum origin) which appear in solid-state systems of low dimensionality (2D, 1D, 0D) and in materials with strong electronic correlations. Their ambition encompasses finding novel solutions to major open problems in photonics and nanoelectronics, including the development of devices for quantum information processing.

CEA-Leti

CEA-Leti, a technology research institute at CEA Tech, pioneers micro and nanotechnologies, tailoring differentiating applicative solutions that ensure competitiveness in a wide range of markets. Its multidisciplinary teams deliver solid expertise for applications ranging from sensors to data processing and computing solutions, leveraging world-class pre-industrialization facilities.  CEA-Leti’s main divisions: Architecture and IC design, embedded software / Silicon components / Silicon technologies / Optics and Photonics / Technologies for Biology and Health / Systems and solutions integration.

CEA-DRT

The Institute of Theoretical Physics' (IPhT) main purpose is to formulate and study the physical and mathematical laws that govern our universe, its structure and its organisation. They cover almost all the major topics of modern theoretical physics: They range from the study of fundamental interactions, aimed for instance at understanding the primordial universe, up to the elaboration of models to understand certain biological structures. They also go through the mathematical study of complex systems in statistical physics and quantum field theory. Under the diversity of the systems under study lies a deep unity between the various mathematical formalisms used to describe them.

At SPEC, condensed matter physics is studied from its most fundamental aspects right through to applications in suitable cases. The approaches are extremely varied and enable the exploration of worlds ranging from the nano scale to macroscopic objects. On the strength of its publications in specialist scientific journals, SPEC is also a centre for technology transfer and patents. SPEC is involved in numerous collaborations, both with the CEA and at national and international level.
